"Do You Paint Tubs?"
An often-asked question and the answer is . . . .no.
There is a significant difference between paint and the GlazeCote proprietary formula. Besides the importance of properly prepping the tub surface prior to reglazing, it is vital that the material applied to the tub (tile or shower), be chemically designed to bond with glass. Paint will rest on the surface of the fixture, while GlazeCote bonds by sharing electrons (covalent bonding) on a molecular level -- the strongest bond possible with glass products. Ceramic, porcelain, fiberglass and acrylic all have the properties of glass. Paint lays on the surface, so when hot water hits your fixture, the surface expands and contracts in response to the sudden temperature change. When the rate of paint's expansion/contraction due to temperature change is different than the surface to which is has been applied, over time the result is blistering, cracking and peeling.
Bath Rescue's GlazeCote, because it is electron-bonded to the surface, expands and contracts with the fixture's surface so you will keep that brilliant, bonded finish for years and years..
